EXPRESSING POSITIVELY

Expressing positively is not only having a positive and optimistic attitude; is also avoiding negative words while communicating an information,

 thus the clarity, tone and effectiveness of a message will be pleasant to read, rather than negative language does.

BEING COURTEOUS

Manners, education, emotions are all complements of what does courteous mean...

                          
Have you ever think about how emotions can alter the information received? Have you ever think about how emotions can alter the information expressed?

Maintaining a daily courteous tone and attitude will be the best way to succeed.

In the Business environment...


Avoid being sarcastic or using expressions such as "you should", "you must" or "you have to", because it will help to inform, persuade and create goodwill. Let's say for example that you are dealing with customers, whether by phone or person; try to keep cool, use polite phrases, such as "I would be happy to assist you", "Thank you for being so patient".


Do not forget that even if you feel anger, frustration or infuriated using a
courteous language in your career or personal life will be the key to have successful relationships.

BIAS-FREE LANGUAGE

When you think about your audience you also have to make sure about using terms that treat people with respect, such as Bias-free Language. 

Sometimes we do not pay the necessary attention to what and how are we communicating an information, and sometimes it could be hurtful. 

SOLUTION?
Be cautious about expressions that may be biased in different terms, such as gender, race, age or disability. Here are some examples to give you a look of the problem expressions and possible solutions:
  • Gender Biased:  
 cleaning woman--- cleaner 
  • Racially or Ethically Biased:
An Indian dancer---A dancer
  • Age Biased:
The law applied to old people ---The law applied to people over 65



 Try to leave out the words "man/woman". You can also avoid demeaning or subjective expression; people may find rude if you refer to an individual's disability. 

Make that little effort to build a graceful, grammatical and unselfconscious message that you are not excluding or offending anyone.

DEFINITELY IS ABOUT WORDS

Are you the type of person who thinks that using unfamiliar and formal words will make you more serious...?


If the answer is YES!... Do not hesitate to read this article that will show you how complicate can we be at the moment of express ourselves, and some solutions to improve your communication skills. 

Have in mind that at the moment of communicate a message, you have to know about your audience. Although, the message that you want to give is the same, it is always different who is receiving it and the way that the person understands it. 


PLAIN LANGUAGE AND FAMILIAR WORDS: 
Use words that you know your audience will understand easily and do not struggle on recognizing the meaning. But at the same time, do not avoid those words that you know will conveys your message efficiently and is appropriate for your audience. 
For example: If you mean begin, avoid commence; if you mean pay, avoid compensate.
Moreover, the properly use of jargon is also relevant, because "it is that special language belonging exclusively to a group" - Dictionary.com (2015). Use specialized language only when you know that your audience is able to understand. 

EMPLOYING PRECISE AND VIGOROUS WORDS:
If you want to keep your audience interested and informed be aware of using strong verbs and concrete nouns. But do not overlook the dictionary for expanding your vocabulary, because you just have to use specific words whenever is possible. For example: To think about it (imprecise) - to identify, analyze, examine (more precise)
Do not forget that precise but familiar words will make your audience understand your idea without any misunderstand. Therefore, having an open but simply vocabulary is one of the key to express yourself.
